Public transport – Train (Stockholm)
The comfortable and environmentally friendly Arlanda Express takes 20 minutes to Stockholm Central Station (Stockholm C). The airport’s station (Arlanda C) can be reached via the lower level of each terminal. Next to the escalators, that take you downstairs, there are ticket vending machines where you can buy a ticket. Yet, it is also possible to buy a ticket at one of the counters or online through the website of Arlanda Express. Tickets cost 280 SEK for a single trip and 540 SEK for a return. Youth from 18 up to 25 years of age pay 150 SEK for a single trip and 300 SEK for a return. Children up to 17 years old can travel for free if accompanied by an adult, which is applicable to a maximum of four children. The fast trains leave every 15 minutes from the airport and out of the city. If you book online through the official website, you get a discount if you make a reservation well in advance. Public transport – Train (Stockholm and Uppsala)
If you prefer to spend less money you can also choose to take train J38 of SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik), the so-called Pendeltåg train departs twice an hour under SkyCity between Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. Travel time between Arlanda C and Stockholm C is 38 minutes, a train journey to Stockholm South Station (Stockholms södra) takes 5 minutes longer. Travel time from the airport to Uppsala C is shorter (18 minutes). To travel with the trains of SL you need a SL Access card, which costs 20 SEK. The SL Accces card is an electronic rechargeable card, for sale at the ticket vending machines. A ticket for a single journey costs 43 SEK, this does not include the airport fee of 120 SEK. A ticket for 24 hours, to be used on the entire network of SL and UL (Upplands Lokaltrafik) costs 120 SEK, this does not include the airport fee of 120 SEK. If you are under 20 years or over 64 years you will have to pay only 29 SEK for your ticket to Stockholm C and Uppsala C, excluding the airport surcharge. Persons under 18 years old don’t have to pay the airport surcharge. If you plan to make more use of the SL trains, but not on the same day, you can also recharge your SL Access card with an amount between 100 SEK and 1,000 SEK. Reloading your pass with an amount of money means you do not need to buy a new ticket every time you take the train. Besides, you benefit from a discount on your journeys. Adults only pay 30 SEK instead of 43 SEK for a single trip, persons under 20 years and over 64 years get a discount of 9 SEK for each train journey. Bus transportation – Flygbussarna (Stockholm)
Not faster but cheaper is Flygbussarna that runs between the airport and Cityterminalen in the centre of Stockholm. Tickets can be bought beforehand through the official website. An online ticket is valid for 3 months from the date of purchase. The barcode on the ticket can be scanned upon entering the bus. It is also possible to buy a ticket at one of the ticket machines at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and in the city. From the bus driver you can only buy a ticket with credit or debit card.
