How to get from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona?
Public transport – Train (Barcelona)
The centre of Barcelona is easily accessible by suburban train Renfe R2 Nord. The train station of the airport is located at Terminal 2 section B; from here Renfe R2 Nord departs two times per hour. One of the stations of this service is Passeig de Gràcia in the centre of Barcelona. The journey to Passeig de Gràcia takes 26 minutes, the price of a single ticket is € 4.10 (4 zones). If you are planning to travel multiple times within Barcelona city limits, then it is wiser to buy a T-10 ticket (1 zone) for € 9.95. A T-10 ticket (1 zone) can be shared by multiple people; for one ride you can travel up to 75 minutes and change a maximum of three times to bus, metro, tram or train. Although Barcelona Airport is not situated in zone 1, it is possible to use a T-10 ticket (1 zone) for transportation to and from the airport, which is the only exception. You can travel by shuttle bus and metro between Terminal 1 and the train station at Terminal 2 of the airport, it enables any traveller to make use of the train service. It is important to determine where you want to get off the train in advance, since the terminus of Renfe R2 Nord is not in the city but way farther away in Maçanet-Massanes. Please consult website and timetable Renfe (Aeroport – Barcelona-Passeig de Gràcia) for more information.
Public transport – Bus (Barcelona)
It is also possible to travel to the centre of Barcelona by bus, during the day with bus 46 and at night with bus N16/17. These are buses of Barcelona’s public transport company called Barcelona TMB, not to be confused with the Aerobus shuttle service. A bus ticket costs only € 2.15, which is much cheaper than the € 5.90 you pay for the Aerobus. Bus 46 and bus N16/17 run between both terminals at Barcelona Airport and Plaza de España in the city centre. If you arrive at Terminal 1, the bus is normally a faster alternative than the train, because you do not have to take the shuttble bus or metro to get from Terminal 1 to the train station at Terminal 2. Bus 46 runs every 12 to 15 minutes, the journey time is at least 30 minutes. Tickets are available from the bus driver, but you can buy a T-10 ticket (1 zone) at one of the ticket machines as well if you want to use public transport more often during your stay in Barcelona. Please consult website AMB and website Aerobus for more information.
Public transport – Metro (Barcelona)
A third possibility is the subway, on 12 February 2016 Barcelona opened a driverless metro extension to the airport. Nowadays you can travel by metro line S9 from the airport towards the city. Barcelona Airport has two underground stations, namely Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2. The metro runs between the airport and metro station Zona Universitària, the journey time between the two destinations is 32 minutes. Metro L9S is not the fastest mode of transport to reach the centre of Barcelona, because you have to change twice (Europa Fira, Placa d’Espanya). However, the metro is ideal if you want to visit the trade fair of Barcelona (Fira Barcelona), the two sites are easily reachable by metro. Fira Barcelona Gran Via is located right in between metro stations Fira and Europa Fira, and is directly accessible with L9 Sud. Fira Barcelona Montjuïc is located next to metro station Placa d’Espanya and can be reached by metro with one change at metro station Europa Fira. The stadium of FC Barcelona is directly accessible with L9 Sud too. Travel time from Barcelona Airport to metro station Collblanc close to Camp Nou is 28 minutes. The metro runs every 7 minutes and the price of a ticket including airport surcharge is € 4.50. Please consult website and timetable metro L9S for more information.
